Tokyo Friends Center and Meetinghouse in Mito Damaged by Earthquake

Tokyo Friends Center

While many have been reported safe, and their meetings are some distance from the epicenter of the quake, there are ongoing concerns about radiation from the damaged nuclear power stations. Japanese Friends are endeavoring to move forward with the task of recovering from the earthquake, tsunami, and now increasing radiation levels.

A recent letter from Yukiko Backes, a Japanese Friend, stated her concerns in repairing the Mito meetinghouse, which connects to the kindergarten. Tokyo Friends Center also needs repairs to replace a chimney and fix a broken wall and windows. Those who are staying in shelters need solid and permanent living quarters.

Everywhere there are donation boxes and all are helping the victims in their own way. For futher information, visit the FWCC Asia-West Pacific Section’s website.
