Peter West Nutting is a member of Vassalboro (Maine) Meeting. After 35 years of teaching German and French, he is now a freelance translator. Besides photography, his passions are gardening, hiking, winter sports, and managing his tree farm. His photographs may be viewed at www​.franklintreephoto​.com.

This article is about the author’s experience at the 2013 FGC Gathering leading a workshop called “Photography as a Contemplative Practice.” All photographs were taken by the workshop participants throughout the week of Gathering.
