Hoffman—Caroline Beans Smith Hoffman, 95, on June 15, 2019, in Riddle Village, Media, Pa. A lifelong member of the Religious Society of Friends, Caroline was born on October 28, 1923, in Bucks County, Pa., and raised on a dairy farm. She graduated from George School and West Chester University (then West Chester State Teachers College). Both of her parents had Quaker ancestors who had arrived in Pennsylvania around 1682, with one group coming over on the Friendly Adventurer.
She taught at a one-room school near her birth place and in the 1950s and ’60s at Media Friends School. She also worked in Philadelphia for Curtis Publishing Company. When the children were grown, she worked at Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Her longest meeting membership was at Media (Pa.) Meeting, where she served as recording clerk and on the Overseers and Fellowship Activities Committees.
Caroline is survived by three children, Donna Hoffman, Stephen Hoffman, and Janet Hoffman; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
