David A. Meirs II

Meirs—David A. Meirs II, 87, on March 27, 2017, in Cinnaminson, N.J., surrounded by love and family. David was born on April 30, 1929, in Columbus, N.J. After graduating from Rutgers University with honors and University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, he established Walnridge Equine Clinic in 1965. He served as president of the New Jersey Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, Rutgers University Board for Equine Advancement (RUEA), and New Jersey Association of Equine Practitioners. Also on the board of the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, he was awarded many honors for his work.

He served the community on the Upper Freehold Township Open Space Committee, Upper Freehold Township Scenic Byway Subcommittee, Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education, and Monmouth County Historical Commission. He was the Upper Freehold Township historian for many years.

A devoted and supportive father, David was a member of Crosswicks (N.J.) Meeting. He is survived by his wife, Caroline W. Meirs; his children, David A. Meirs III (Robin), Richard S. Meirs (Sherri), and MaryAnn Meirs; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to one of these three: Rutgers University Foundation Equine Science Center; Standardbred Retirement Foundation; or Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey (SBOANJ) TrotPAC.
