Jean B. Scattergood

Scattergood—Jean B. Scattergood, 91, peacefully, on November 23, 2015, in her home at Medford Leas in Medford Township, N.J., after a yearlong struggle with ALS. Jean was born on January 3, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School and University of Pennsylvania, later earning a master’s in education from College of New Jersey (then Trenton State College). She lived and worked for 57 years on the family farm in Bordentown Township, N.J. After 20 years of teaching she retired from Peter Mescal Elementary School. She was clerk of Crosswicks (N.J.) Meeting; treasurer of the New Jersey Association of Farm Insurance; and a member of Burlington County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, New Jersey Education Association, National Education Association, and Burlington County Retirees’ Education Association. She loved her family, her friends, her cat Chrissie, the shore (especially Ocean City), and playing bridge.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Wilford Broadbelt, and her husbands, Norman Scattergood and Peter Grady. She is survived by her beloved children, Elizabeth I. Scattergood (Tom Kinder), Nancy S. Donavan (Peter), John R. Scattergood, and Kirk D. Scattergood (Donna); five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
