Gwynedd MM Minutes, February 1714/5 to April 1718

Transcribed by James Quinn from Microfilm at the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore College

Note 1- the scribe did not use periods. Run on sentences are normal. In some places the editor has added "-" to make the following more readable.

Note 2 - the business of the Monthly Meeting as set down here appears to have been confined to membership, marriage, choosing people to attend Quarterly Meeting, discipline of wayward members (those whose children marry non-Quakers mostly) and settling personal disputes amongst members. Not one word was found in the minutes about the Indian troubles that occurred within the borders served by Gwynedd in 1728 - apparently this was outside the bounds set for the business meeting, even though it led to the trial and execution of people related to members of the meeting.

Note 3 - Gwynedd Monthly Meeting at this time was the meeting of the northwest Pennsylvania frontier and included the people who live in the territory served by Gwynedd, Plymouth, Perquioman (Providence), Oley(became Exeter MM, separated from Gwynedd 1737), Maiden Creek and Richland (Swamp) Prepartive Meetings in today's Montgomery, Bucks and Berks Counties.

Note 4 - Dates are old style. First month is March, Twelth month is February.

Note 5 - Appears to be minutes of the men's meeting for business only. There may be separate minutes for the women's meeting.
