Jessica Reynolds Renshaw published these books in order to share her family’s story of working in Japan and actually getting to know survivors of the bombing of Japan by the United States in World War II. There is also a detailed narrative of the family’s resistance to nuclear weapons (the “brave wooden boat” is one that her father designed and built). With loving detail and many photographs, she tells many interwoven stories of her family and all the people they knew and worked with in those years. The second book focuses on Renshaw’s mother, her work and accolades. For readers who remember the postwar years and the intensity of anti-nuclear work, sharing in the Reynolds’ memories will be rewarding.
