Ningesema kwamba kuishi katika karne ya ishirini na moja pia si kwa watu wanyonge\u2014na kuna wengi wetu ambao tunajaribu kufanya yote mawili! Hizi ni nyakati ambapo uwezo wa kutegemea misingi imara ya kiroho haujawahi kuwa muhimu zaidi. Wimbo wa zamani unazungumza juu ya umuhimu wa kusimama juu ya mwamba thabiti, sio mchanga unaozama, lakini nashangaa ikiwa misingi yetu ya kiroho ni thabiti vile tungetamani.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ulimwengu wetu umebadilishwa kwa kiasi kikubwa katika karne chache zilizopita, na kuacha dini za jadi zikihangaika kukidhi mahitaji yetu ya kiakili na kiroho. Na, ingawa hizi zinaweza kuwa nyakati za mwisho au zisiwe, kwa hakika zinatilia shaka mustakabali wa maisha Duniani kama tunavyoujua. Kukiwa na maonyo mabaya ya hali ya hewa, kuongezeka kwa ukosefu wa usawa, ubaguzi wa rangi, na migawanyiko ya kitamaduni ya kutisha, habari mbaya zisizokoma na zinazoenea katika nyanja zote zinagongana na masimulizi ya kina ya jamii yetu ya maendeleo yasiyoepukika na hitaji letu la mahali pa kusimama.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tunajikuta tumechanganyikiwa\u2014tukiwa tumeshtuka hata\u2014na kukata tamaa ya kupata nafuu. Utamaduni wa ushindani na wa ubinafsi hulenga juhudi zetu kwenye malengo ya kibinafsi, kutoa nafasi ndogo ya kujihusisha na hasara na hofu. Inatuacha tukiwa katika hatari ya mvuto wa matumizi, usumbufu, uraibu\u2014chochote cha kutufanya ganzi kwa hisia zenye uchungu sana kuhisi. Na inatuweka katika kufahamu nguvu za kisasa kwa uhakika ambazo zinadai kwa uthabiti uthabiti lakini bado zinatuacha kwenye ardhi iliyotetereka.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moja ni ile simulizi ya maendeleo yasiyoepukika; kingine ni mvuto wa kutengana. Iwe tunazungumza juu ya uhuru, faragha, au hata upweke, yote yanazunguka utakatifu wa mtu ambaye ameambatana na kisasa.  Ingawa kwa hakika kuna jambo la kuthaminiwa kuhusu wakala na chaguo la mtu binafsi, pia kuna mengi ya kututia changamoto tunapofikiria hali yetu ya kiroho.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-pure-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-80607e0614c1c82ba314ea26e8b830f9 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(5,113,176) 0%,rgb(5,113,176) 100%)\"><strong>Ingawa kwa hakika kuna jambo la kuthaminiwa kuhusu wakala na chaguo la mtu binafsi, pia kuna mengi ya kututia changamoto tunapofikiria hali yetu ya kiroho.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">Hili linaonekana wazi zaidi tunapoweka suala hili kama moja ya umiliki wa kibinafsi. Utajiri na maendeleo\u2014tumeamini\u2014yanategemea mtu binafsi kuweza kuvuna thawabu za jitihada za mtu binafsi. Kupanua mantiki hii, tunauliza inamaanisha nini kuwa na umiliki wa kibinafsi wa maisha yetu tofauti. Je, hilo linaathiri vipi jinsi tunavyojihusisha na watu wengine, vikundi vingine, viumbe vingine, vizazi vingine vijavyo?   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maisha yaliyobinafsishwa, katika mizizi yao, ni maisha yanayolindwa\u2014iwe ni kwa namna ya watu waliojitenga na kusimamia maisha yao yaliyotenganishwa na kujihusisha na matatizo ya ulimwengu kadri wawezavyo au iwe katika mfumo wa vikundi vidogo vinavyojitambulisha vinavyojenga kuta kati yao na dunia nzima na kuunda simulizi lao la ukweli. Kwa kadiri maisha yetu yanabinafsishwa, kwa namna yoyote ile, miguu yetu inateleza kuelekea kwenye mchanga unaozama. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">Nyenzo nyingine kuu ya usasa imekuwa nia ya pamoja ya wanadamu ya kupata maarifa zaidi. Mchakato huo umekuwa ukiongezeka kwa kasi, huku wanasayansi wakiwa wamefungua mipaka mipya ya maarifa ambayo babu na babu zetu hawangeweza kufikiria. Hakika kuna mengi ya kusherehekea katika mchakato huu. Maarifa, wanasema, ni jambo lenye nguvu, lakini pia ni jambo la kutisha. Tumezidi kuathiriwa na imani kwamba ni kujua kila kitu: ujuzi huo ni sawa na hekima. Kijadi, kujua jina la kitu ilikuwa kushikilia mamlaka juu yake. Ikitumiwa vibaya, mamlaka hayo yangevunja utaratibu takatifu na kuleta uharibifu. Kwa nini, nashangaa, hilo onyo la kale linasikika kwa namna ya kutisha sana katika hali yetu ya sasa?       <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kwa sisi ambao tumehamisha uaminifu wetu kutoka kwa Mungu mjuzi wa yote hadi sayansi inayojua yote, wokovu wetu unakaa katika kuzama katika kujaribu kukaa sasa hivi, kuelewa masuala muhimu ya siku huku tukiendelea kushughulikia zaidi. Mmoja ana mwelekeo wa kukata tamaa, mwingine kuelekea matumaini, lakini wote wawili wanashiriki katika ngoma karibu na nguvu ya ujuzi, na hakuna inaonekana kujengwa juu ya ardhi imara kabisa. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">Ngoma nyingine isiyo na wakati ambayo sote tunashiriki ni densi ya karibu na kukata tamaa. Baadhi yetu tunakumbatia kukata tamaa kama ishara kwamba tuna nguvu za kutosha kukabiliana na ukweli na bado tunaendelea kuweka mguu mmoja mbele ya mwingine. Baadhi hujibu kwa seti ya miwani ya waridi na azimio kali la kudhibiti simulizi kwa masharti yetu wenyewe.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bado kukata tamaa kunatawala njia zote mbili. Wale wanaochagua glasi za rangi ya waridi wanashikilia ulinzi dhidi ya kukata tamaa, wanahitaji sana kuamini kuwa kila kitu kitakuwa sawa. Kutamani kwetu juu ya ukweli ni silaha yetu ya kinga. Watabiri husogea moja kwa moja kuelekea kukata tamaa, wakijaribu kupata nguvu kwa kuikumbatia kwa ukaribu kadiri tuwezavyo, tukitumaini kwamba utayari wetu wa kudai uhalisi usiopendeza zaidi unapata ukweli na kuangalia ukweli usiopendeza machoni licha ya jinsi tunavyohisi kutashusha miiba yetu kwa namna fulani na kuthibitisha thamani yetu.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-pure-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-d684d2490f99f586458d6223810be536 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(5,113,176) 0%,rgb(5,113,176) 100%)\"><strong>Je, tunaenda na kukubalika kwa matumaini kwa kile tunachoweza kuona juu ya ukweli katika azimio la ukaidi la kuendelea bila kujali uwezekano, au tunaweka ukuta jambo ambalo linaonekana kuwa lisilowazika kwa masimulizi ya ulinzi na matumaini kwa uthabiti kwa sababu hiyo ndiyo tu tunayo?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">Ninaona dalili za njia ya tatu: moja ambayo haikati tamaa kama mchezaji mwenye nguvu zaidi kwenye chumba. Nakumbuka nilishiriki hali fulani ya kukata tamaa na rafiki yangu na kutambua kwamba sauti niliyokuwa nikisikia ilisikika kama ya msichana mdogo sana: sauti kutoka utoto wangu. Bila shaka, <em>nilikuwa<\/em> mdogo sana wakati huo. Nguvu zilizotawala maisha yangu <em>zilikuwa<\/em> nje ya uwezo wangu.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ilikuwa ni wakati wa &#8221;aha&#8221;. Hisia za kukata tamaa zinazotokea haraka sana, kwa mfano, kuhusu hali ya hewa, zilikuwepo kati yangu na wenzangu muda mrefu kabla hatujawazia kile tunachoshuhudia sasa. Ni hisia za zamani, ambazo bado hazijatulia kutoka tulipokuwa wadogo sana kuwa na athari yoyote kwa ulimwengu unaotuzunguka. Ninaona ni jambo la kufafanua na kuburudisha sana kuzingatia kwamba kwa hivyo haziepukiki. Daima wanatafuta mahali pazuri pa kuambatanisha kwa sasa\u2014na hali ya hewa imekuwa sumaku isiyozuilika\u2014lakini ni yetu changamoto.      <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hii sio kusema kwamba hatuna shida! Kadiri nguvu kubwa za kimataifa ambazo zimetufikisha katika hatua hii zinavyokua katika muunganisho wao mgumu na athari ya kimataifa, ukubwa wa vitisho tunachokabiliana nacho haujawahi kutokea. Huenda tusiishi. Lakini vipi ikiwa tungeonekana kukata tamaa machoni na bado tukakumbatia mahali pengine pa kusimama?   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tunapojihusisha na nguvu hizi zote zenye nguvu za utengano, maarifa ya kilimwengu, na kukata tamaa, naona chaguo la pamoja. Je, tunaenda na kukubalika kwa matumaini kwa kile tunachoweza kuona juu ya ukweli katika azimio la ukaidi la kuendelea bila kujali uwezekano, au tunaweka ukuta jambo ambalo linaonekana kuwa lisilowazika kwa masimulizi ya ulinzi na matumaini kwa uthabiti kwa sababu hiyo ndiyo tu tunayo?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">Iwapo tuko tayari kuhoji utiifu wetu kwa mihimili hii ambayo maisha yetu yanaelekezwa kwa njia moja au nyingine, je, tunabadilisha na nini? Ninapofikiria uzi wa kawaida wa ulinzi, najiuliza nini kingetokea ikiwa tungeamua kucheza kwa uwazi badala yake?   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hii ingemaanisha kuacha faragha na kuta zote zinazotulinda na kisha kujifungua sisi wenyewe\u2014kwa mioyo na akili na miili yetu wenyewe\u2014kuunganishwa na wanadamu wanaotuzunguka na mifumo ya ikolojia ambayo tumejikita ndani yake. Itatuita tuchimbue tabaka za ubinafsi unaokubalika kitamaduni katika mikutano yetu mingi ya Quaker ili kufikia msingi wa ushirika wa mila zetu.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingehitaji unyenyekevu kudhani kwamba chochote tunachojifunza kitaangazia maeneo makubwa zaidi ya kutojua ambayo hapo awali yalikuwa hayaonekani kwetu. Ingetaka kukuzwa kwa mtazamo wa kustaajabisha kwa wasiojulikana. Itatukumbusha kuweka maarifa ya uzoefu juu ya yote, kama Marafiki wa mapema walivyofanya.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingekuwa kitovu cha moyo wa upendo, tunapofungua uwezekano kwamba kinyume cha upendo si chuki bali kukata tamaa. Ingetuita kukaribisha na kujenga uwezo wetu wa kuhuzunika, kutoboa kufa ganzi ambayo huturuhusu kukubaliana na maovu, na kudumisha uwezo wetu wa matarajio na matumaini. Bila uwazi kwa huzuni, hatuna chaguo ila kujilinda kutokana na jambo lolote linaloweza kusababisha huzuni hiyo.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingetualika tujifungue kwa ghaibu, tukipitia mstari wa hadithi ya kudumu kwa kile kilicho na kujihusisha na maono ya kile kinachoweza kuwa: wanadamu wanaozingatia wema na uwezo wao, jumuiya zinazojenga utajiri wao wa kawaida, mahusiano ya kijamii yasiyo ya uchimbaji, udongo uliofanywa upya: utando wa maisha upya.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ulimwengu unahitaji watu ambao wanaweza kutumia mawazo yetu na kusuka ukweli mpya kutoka kwa nyuzi zisizo na maana, watu ambao wanaweza kusema &#8221;hii ni kweli&#8221; hata wakati hakuna mtu mwingine anayeweza kuiona &#8211; na kuchukua hatua kulingana na ukweli huo. Kwa kuchochewa na maono hayo, tuna uwezo bora zaidi wa kuingia katika kusikojulikana na kuweza kusaidiana zaidi kutoka katika hali ya kutoweza kusonga ambayo wengi wetu tumenaswa na kuingia katika asili ambayo tulizaliwa na kuelekea kwenye ndoto zetu za juu zaidi.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ngoma yenye uwazi inatuita kukuza uwezo wetu wa kusikiliza kile ambacho ni kweli. Kuweka masikio yetu na kuanza na wakati mdogo katika maisha yetu ya kila siku ambapo tunahisi usawa kama huo, tunaweza kujenga uwezo huo wa kusikiliza katika sehemu zingine, wakati mwingine. Hii inajumuisha kutambua na kushughulikia kile kinachotuzuia kusikia &#8221;sauti iliyo wazi na fulani,&#8221; kama John Woolman anavyosema. Ni nini kinasumbua akili zetu? Tumejifunza jumbe gani, na tumesitawisha mazoea gani ambayo yanazuia ukweli?      <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kwa namna fulani inatubidi kuamini kikamilifu zaidi katika uwezo wetu\u2014katika haki yetu\u2014kusikiliza Uungu na kudhihirisha kile tunachosikia. Hatimaye, ninaamini kwamba nyakati hizo zote ndogo za uwazi, kila moja ikikaliwa kikamilifu, itaungana ili kuunda maisha ya uadilifu na kusudi linaloongezeka kila wakati, na siwezi kufikiria zawadi kubwa zaidi na ya msingi zaidi kwa ulimwengu wetu uliopigwa. Inahitaji nidhamu kali ya kukuza shukrani. Inatutaka kukumbuka kwamba bila kujali ukubwa wa nguvu tunazopata zikipangwa dhidi yetu, daima tuna uwezo juu ya maoni yetu kuhusu asili ya ubinadamu na uwezekano wa mabadiliko.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">Kuna taaluma zingine zaidi ya kujitolea kudumisha moyo wazi ambao unaweza kutusaidia katika njia hii. Moja ni kusitawisha nidhamu ya matumaini. Hii ni tofauti na kuwa shabiki wa matumaini, kufurahia tu hisia zinapotufikia. Ni tofauti na kuzingatia tu mambo ya furaha na kukataa kujihusisha na kitu kingine chochote. Badala yake, huu ni uamuzi unaorudiwa kuwa sasa kwa wema katika moyo wa ukweli, bila kujali sababu zote za kukata tamaa kelele hizo za usikivu wetu kila upande.      <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kujiweka chini kwa matumaini ni mazoezi. Inahitaji nidhamu kali ya kukuza shukrani. Inahusisha kupata ufikiaji wa mitazamo na taarifa ambazo hazipatikani kwa urahisi. Inahitaji kusonga mbele zaidi ya kuotea urembo au wema dhahiri ili kuzipata katika sehemu ambazo zimefichwa, zilizochubuliwa na kupigwa. Inatutaka kukumbuka kwamba bila kujali ukubwa wa nguvu tunazopata zikipangwa dhidi yetu, daima tuna uwezo juu ya maoni yetu kuhusu asili ya ubinadamu na uwezekano wa mabadiliko.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nidhamu ya pili ambayo imekuwa ikiliita jina langu hivi karibuni ni ile ya kuamua kujitokeza. Vizazi vya mafunzo katika maadili ya kazi ya Kiprotestanti vimetuwekea masharti wengi wetu kupima thamani yetu katika kazi tunayoweza kufanya ili kuufanya ulimwengu huu wa huzuni kuwa mahali pazuri zaidi. Lakini hata tufanye kazi kwa bidii na kwa muda gani, bila kujali kina cha azimio letu, hatuna budi kupungukiwa sana. Hakuna jinsi maadili haya ya kazi yanaweza kuwa msingi thabiti wa maisha ya kiroho yenye matunda.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nidhamu hii mbadala inaonekana kuwa rahisi na ya kushangaza sana kwa wakati mmoja: kujionyesha kikamilifu kadri niwezavyo\u2014katika kila dakika na kila mahali na kwa kila mtu na taasisi, nikifikia ndani kabisa ya mizizi yangu na kujinyoosha na kutoka kwa kiwango changu kamili. Inaweza kuonekana kuwa salama zaidi kujificha katika hali ya kukata tamaa tulivu, tukijua kwamba sisi ni nani haiwezi kutosha, lakini kwa njia fulani, nidhamu hii ina pete ya ukweli.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tunapokabiliana na nyakati hizi zenye changamoto, mawazo yangu huenda kwa ni kiasi gani cha nishati tunachotumia katika kujiimarisha. Baadhi yetu tumejizatiti tunapoelekea kwenye dhoruba kwa uthabiti: kuita onyo kwa sauti ya manabii na kukataa kufarijiwa na mitazamo yenye matumaini zaidi ambayo inaonekana kuwa ya kijinga sana. Wengine wametafuta nafasi ambayo hutoa mahali pa kujikinga kutokana na dhoruba, wakijiimarisha kwa kujenga ulinzi wawezao na kuelekeza nguvu na uangalifu wao kuelekea uwezekano wa sasa.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wengine wamejizatiti kukaa wima katikati ya dhoruba; wengine wamejizatiti ili kuepusha maovu yake. Ninajua hisia ya kukabiliana na kukata tamaa inayokuja na kuangalia nje na kujua kwamba chochote ninachoweza kufanya hakitoshi kabisa na bila matumaini. Ninajua njia mbadala ya kudai uwezo wowote ninaoweza kwa kukataa kuangalia zaidi ya kile ninachoweza kudhibiti. Ninajitolea zaidi kwa njia ya tatu: kuhamisha nguvu zetu kutoka kwa uimarishaji hadi kuweka msingi. Nia yangu ni kuonyesha macho wazi na moyo wazi; kushikamana kwa undani na bila kutetewa; sasa kwa changamoto na maumivu ya moyo ya ulimwengu huu, pamoja na utajiri wake wote wa ajabu na furaha, iliyokita mizizi katika roho; na tayari kufanya sehemu yangu.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-pure-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-10c71f4e9adb3573d7af2dd2082f6603 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(5,113,176) 0%,rgb(5,113,176) 100%)\"><strong>Iwapo tunaweza kupata njia yetu kwa mafanikio katika msukosuko huu ambao umekuwa kwa karne nyingi kutengenezwa na katika siku zijazo zinazoweza kufikiwa, bado tunaweza kujitokeza.
