Join Our Book & Media Review Team

We’re Looking for a Few Good Readers!

Thousands of Quakers, Friends meetings, and the Quaker-curious turn to Friends Journal’s book and media review section every month. And now, there’s an opportunity for you to consider joining our team of volunteer reviewers. We are seeking reviewers for material aimed at adults as well as reviewers for material aimed at young people. Our reviewers typically review one to four titles per year, depending on availability, which can change year to year.

What does it take to be a book and media reviewer for Friends Journal? We are looking for people with the following characteristics:

  • A love of books and a thoughtful critical perspective
  • A sense of what Quakers are concerned with today
  • An interest in receiving early access to free copies of newly published or pre-publication books and media, including those from Quaker creators as well as non-Quaker media that is potentially of special interest to Friends
  • Able to write clearly and concisely for a non-academic audience
  • A willingness to follow our review guidelines
  • A commitment to responsiveness and good communication with our volunteer book review editors
  • An interest in seeing your words and perspectives published in print and online for the world to read

If this sounds like you, please fill out our simple web form to let our editors know of your interest. We seek diversity in our reviewer corps along many dimensions: geographic, age, race, gender, and Quaker background, to name a few. Please consider whether you are called to add your voice to our pages!
