It doesn’t exactly have positive connotations, yet 2020 most definitely was full of protest, and it is hard to say that we ended up worse for it.

The following is an expanded version of Madison’s poem that appeared in the May 2021 print edition.

In 2020 I learned how to garden.

Imagine this: an 11-year-old boy hears about an opportunity to be in his school’s production of Newsies.

This year, I have learned a lot about virtual and physical connections.

“The coronavirus is spreading.”

2020 was an unusual year.

Simple. That’s one way you could sum up the entirety of the 2010s.

Bzzzzzzzz—I could hear the buzzing of the saw as it got closer to my skin.
