Elkinton–Moriuchi—Agnes Miyo Moriuchi and Steven Elkinton married on September 3, 2017, under the care of Chestnut Hill Meeting in Philadelphia, Pa. This joyous occasion united two families active in Quakerism for several generations. Although both grew up in the Philadelphia area (Miyo in Moorestown, N.J., and Steve in Media, Pa.), they first met in 2006 serving on the Central Committee of Friends General Conference. Each had been married previously. Miyo earned a master’s degree at American University in 2004. She has been an adjunct instructor of English as a Second Language, teaching in Thailand and at Arcadia, Alvernia, and Drexel Universities. Steve, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, retired in 2014 from a 36-year career with the National Park Service. Their four daughters joined them for the wedding, coming from Durban, South Africa; Portland, Ore.; Arlington, Va.; and New York City. Steve and Miyo live in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood.
Just curious, I am an Elkinotn and wondering about our connection. I am the great-granddaughter of Delbert Elkinton from Illinois and live in Portland Oregon. I have been studying the history of Quakerism in the Elkinton family during WW1 and WW2 and realize there are shared values and belief systems even if not labeled by a religious name.
There are some interesting connections between William Penn and Geoge Fox
I would be interested in any historical information you may have or images. Thank you. Lisa Elkinton Becker lisarbecker@gmail.com
