Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the emotional ghost of a life-threatening event. It lingers in the shadows of the victim’s mind looking for an opportunity to poke a tormenting finger into any secure sanctuary sought by the victim. In sleep, it is a nightmare; awake, it is a struggle to contain that nightmare.
