David Keogh and Peter Allan Cartwright

Keogh-CartwrightDavid Keogh and Peter Allan Cartwright married on November 2, 2019, in Stockport Meeting (Greater Manchester, England): the first same-sex couple to marry in the meeting. Dave had been attending the meeting for about a year, and Peter for six months.

Dave, who is 59, has taken Peter’s surname. He lives in Stockport, about a five-minute walk from Stockport Meetinghouse, with a little rescue dog named Poppy. Peter, who is 78, lives alone six miles away in Gorton, Greater Manchester. They have no current plans to live together, although they do talk about it. This is Dave’s first marriage. Peter was divorced and has two children and three grandchildren.

Guests at the wedding were Stockport Friends, Quakers from other meetings in the East Cheshire area, and non-Quakers; and all found it a joyful occasion—including Poppy. Dave and Peter are grateful for the welcome, acceptance, and unconditional kindness of Stockport Meeting and for being treated like any other couple. They hope to make Stockport Meeting and all their wedding guests glad for their contributions and their good wishes.
