Baker—Ellen Elizabeth Baker, a.k.a. Lenel de Emma, 62, on December 22, 2022, in Richmond, Calif. She died as she lived: quick, fearless, and outdoors. Lenel was born on March 21, 1960, in New York City, N.Y.. Her mother was an attender of Berkeley (Calif.) Meeting. Lenel attended a Quaker high school, John Woolman School, in Nevada City, Calif., and studied at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind.
Lenel worked as owner and director of childcare programs and as a care consultant. She lent support to many families, including the elderly and disabled and participated in the activities of FACES (Family, Art, Culture, Education, Spirituality). Lenel enjoyed crocheting and knitting; strolling and visiting with friends; spending time appreciating the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers; the turning of the leaves; and preparing and savoring delicious food with friends. Lenel spent time in the birthing room of the Temple of Dendera in Egypt and also visited Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, and Mexico.
She was a tireless worker for social justice. Although she was not a member of Berkeley Meeting, she was valued and appreciated by the meeting community.
Lenel is survived by her sister, Carol Baker; and her brother, Paul Baker.
