At this year’s Friends General Conference Gathering held at California University of Pennsylvania, Friends Journal sponsored a photo booth experiment over a two-day period, July 2–3. The goal was twofold: to capture the spirit and love of Friends coming together, and to offer a gift to our beloved community. Following the conference, all photo booth participants were able to download one high-resolution photo to keep, suitable for printing.
Sara Waxman, Friends Journal’s advertising and marketing manager, organized and ran the photo booth while Philadelphia-based photographer Jacques-Jean Tiziou took the photos. Known for his campaign “Everyone Is Photogenic” (everyoneisphotogenic.com), JJ enjoyed snapping photos of lots of happy, photogenic Friends. More than 5,000 images were collected over a total of 8 hours!
Each day at the photo booth was a celebration, a party. There was music and giveaways while people waited in line for their turn to pose in front of the bright red backdrop. Generations of families, lovers, dancers, activists, and friends filled the booth. At the end of the day, the images were transferred into a slide show for Gathering participants to watch. Thank you to all who participated in making this photo experiment a great success. Here are just a few of the images we gathered.
