A Ministry of Presence

A crisis of policy leads Baltimore Friends toward reviving intervisitation and a “ministry of presence.”

Joan Dyer Liversidge, a member of Sandy Spring (Md.) Meeting has traveled among Friends United Meeting Friends since 2002 and serves on the Intervisitation Working Group. This summer she traveled as a minister of presence to the annual sessions of Evangelical Friends Church Eastern Region, Indiana Yearly Meeting, and Intermoutain Yearly Meeting.

Bruce Birchard is a member of Central Philadelphia (Pa.) Meeting. He recently retired after 19 years of service as General Secretary of Friends General Conference. He has been encouraged to develop the entirety of "Meeting at the Center" into a Pendle Hill pamphlet. This is an excerpt from "Meeting at the Center: Living Love and Reconciling One to Another," Bruce Birchard's plenary address at the 2011 Friends General Conference Gathering of Friends held in Iowa.
