RosenbergRonald Eagle Rosenberg, 73, on February 21, 2021, of COVID, in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Ron was born on August 18, 1947, to Richard Adler Rosenberg and Elsye Louise Eagle in Selma, Ala. Ron’s parents were Jewish, and he received religious education from rabbis; but as a child in rural Alabama, he also attended Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian, and Catholic churches. During his senior year of high school, Ron transferred to Stockbridge School in Stockbridge, Mass. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. While at Antioch College, Ron was encouraged by members of Yellow Springs Meeting to become active in civil rights advocacy.

During the 1970s, Ron practiced Tibetan Buddhism in Boulder, Colo. He continued practicing Buddhism after moving to Atlanta, Ga., in 1982. Ron became a member of Atlanta Meeting. He felt an affinity between Tibetan Buddhist practices and Quaker meetings for worship. When he applied to transfer his membership to Pima (Ariz.) Meeting in 1990, he wrote, “The Meeting for Worship is not dissimilar to Tibetan Buddhist practice. And, not infrequently, the quiet centeredness, warmth, and giving pause and space exemplified by the Meeting diffuses into the daily interaction of the members.” In 1994, Ron and Mary Marjorie King married under the care of Pima Meeting.

Ron’s work most frequently involved advocacy for human rights, especially the rights of migrants, including access to medical care and counseling services. While living in Atlanta, Ron helped to form the Refugee Committee of Atlanta Committee on Latin America. After moving to Arizona, he regularly reported about his social justice activities to Pima Meeting.

Ron retired in Tepoztlán, Mexico, and remained a human rights activist until his passing.
