Richard D. Hathaway, a member of Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Meeting, is professor emeritus of English at SUNY New Paltz. His publications include Sylvester Judd’s New England (1981) and Reflections from Silence (2011), published by Quaker Books of Britain Yearly Meeting.  He was chairperson of the legislative committee of the Poor People’s Campaign.
