Due to the state of our country and environment, I’ve been having trouble maintaining an outlook that includes gratitude and a zest for living. Feeling such sadness, grief, and anger has made it difficult to keep my head straight and feel a connection with the Divine. A day at the beach at Assateague with a good friend helped me find peace, balance, and yes, gratitude. Sitting on the sand, I asked the Universe to give me comfort and asked it “why” I should feel happiness and gratitude. Here’s the answer I received:
Because children do cartwheels in the sand
Because pelicans fly in a row
Because the sun glistens on the waves
Because laughter eases the pain
Because friendship enriches and deepens us
Because surfers stand up
Because seagulls cry
Because love consumes us and rejuvenates us
Because the spirit still soars
Because the sun and shadows dance
Because the gentle breeze kisses our face
Because when we embrace responsibility with love, it is no longer a burden
Because breathing in and out is beautiful
Because peace is possible
Because the waves will never stop
Because the sand is soft
Because joy wells up
