Impressions

The eagle’s six-foot wing span
pierces the sky,
but leaves no trace in the air.

The shark’s twenty-foot body
smoothly splits the waters,
but leaves no trail in the sea.

What hope that my singular life,
threading its slender path through time,
will leave any lasting impression?
