Fall Morning Canticle

Hildegard said to me,
the light that I see
is not spatial
yet it is far brighter than a cloud
surrounding the sun.

And I replied,
the light that I see
is honey,
boundless amber and topaz.
Far from its source in the east
it speaks with clarity to the maples
and ministers to their shadows on the path.
Neither cloud nor mist,
gilding the rose hips.

O generosa, October sun!
Blessèd be.
