Forgiveness

Listen for the story
of her life as it enters,
drifts of smoke in still air.
Give it room. Bring food.
Leave a chair empty,
an open place at your table,
a space beside you
as you walk.
Ready a bed with fresh linens,
a warm room.
It arrives whole
as if while you were away.
