Reeves—Hanneliesel Reeves, 88, on March 29, 2016, peacefully, at home in Mendocino, Calif. Hanneli was born on November 1, 1927, in Berlin, Germany, where growing up in a war-torn environment developed her strength and self-reliance. Trained as a master tailor after the war, she immigrated to St. Louis, Mo., in 1952, working as a pattern maker until 1956, when she moved to San Francisco, Calif., and married George Reeves. In 1964, they built a house in Mendocino and moved there permanently in 1970. She raised two children and taught quilting. She and George began holding the gathering that was to become Mendocino Worship Group in their living room around 1976. She was the first president of the Mendocino Land Trust, a founding member of Mendocino Meeting, and an avid gardener who helped to start the Art Center’s annual Coast Garden Tour. She will be remembered for her skills with textiles, love of plant life, unvarnished character, and warm smile.
Hanneli is survived by two children, Erina Reeves, George Reeves (Ann Walker); a sister, Helga Maaser; and a brother, Harald Unteutsch.
