When a treasured tea bowl shattered,
the kintsugi master glued the fragments
with a paste of lacquer mixed with powdered gold.
The lacquer bound the shards together,
the gold, a bolt of lightning to mark the fracture.
For years I tried to hide a broken heart.
For years I tried to make love’s suture vanish.
Today I wear it glinting on my sleeve. And breathe.
