Sandra L. Smith Stoltz

Stoltz—Sandra L. Smith Stoltz, 63, on March 29, 2017, in York County, Pa. Sandy was born in York County on July 7, 1953, to Beatrice Franklin and Howard F. Smith Jr. She graduated from West York High School and worked for several local manufacturers as she raised her children.

Sandy and her family joined York Meeting in the 1980s. They were instrumental in the restoration and modernization that brought the old meetinghouse into the twentieth century. Sandy served as clerk in the late 1990s and was active in the affairs of Warrington Quarterly Meeting, including membership on the committee that compiled and published Friendly Recipes from Baltimore Yearly Meeting’s Warrington Quarter of the Religious Society of Friends. She celebrated her family’s holiday memories with recipes for scones, Holiday Pudding, and Groundhog Day Cake. Sandy once said that if she had first looked through the windows of York meetinghouse, she would never have come in. Friends are thankful that this thoughtful, loving Friend who cared for and served York Meeting chose instead to first enter the door.

After many years of marriage, she and her husband, Patrick Stoltz, divorced. An early and rapid onset of illness took her to an assisted living facility, where her memory faded until she no longer recognized visiting Friends.

Sandy is survived by her mother, Beatrice Smith; two children, Adam P. Stoltz and Adrienne Stoltz Myers (Ian); two brothers, Steven M. Smith and Howard F. Smith III; and two granddaughters.
