In Need of Repair

A metaphor for today

I just repaired the seagrass shade
that was stuck in place dimming
the light from my living room window.

It was an easy fix once I
isolated the underpinnings
that had become undone over time.

I watched this shade over time
as it tilted more and more
to one side until it just wouldn’t move.

Aware of what was happening
but thinking that whatever I did
wouldn’t matter,
I left this repair until letting in the light
was all I could think of.

  1. It’s been 4 months since Jennie Sherwin’s In Need of Repair reached me and I still love it for what it tells me.

    “Aware of what was happening

    wouldn’t matter,
I left this repair until letting in the light
was all I could think of.”

Thanks to Jennie, thanks to poetry, aand thanks to Friends Journal.
