Mucci-Deming—Michele (Mickey) Mucci-Deming, 79, on January 27, 2025, at her home where she was lovingly cared for by her sons, Andrew and Simeon, and by thoughtful guidance and support from Jillian Bird, in Philadelphia, Pa. Michele was born on August 10, 1945, to Madeline and Giulio Mucci in the Bronx, N.Y.
Michele loved learning and was a bona fide intellectual. She was a graduate of the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, the College of New Rochelle (’67), Manhattan College (master’s in theology), and the Hunter College School of Social Work (MSW ’75). Her interests were wide and included journaling, reading, crafts, vegetable gardening, babysitting, enjoying a daily summer swim at Walloon Lake in Michigan, and opening her home to visitors from all around the world.
Michele and Vinton met at a march against the death penalty on Easter weekend 1977 in Atlanta, Ga. They married in 1979 on the campus of the College of New Rochelle, and joined in a lifetime of seeking justice for all. Despite their differences in height, they faithfully enjoyed a New Year’s Eve dance in the kitchen for the next 41 years. Vinton passed away in 2020.
Michele retired from her career as a social worker when she left the Living Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) Program in Philadelphia, Pa., in 2013. She was a dedicated case worker, managing and caring for underserved geriatric patients. Those lucky enough to receive her attention and care were left smiling in anticipation of her next visit.
Michele was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Vinton Deming.
She is survived by two children, Andrew Deming (Jillian Bird) and Simeon Deming; four grandchildren; one step-daughter, Evelyn Deming; three siblings, Ralph Mucci (Gail Briefer), Drusilla Mucci (partner Cynthia Carter), and Julia Mucci (Steve Scofield); one niece; and seven nephews.
