Renate Frey

FreyRenate Frey, 77, on May 5, 2019, in Doylestown, Pa., peacefully, after enduring three years of Alzheimer’s disease with grace. Renate was born on November 18, 1941, in Backnang, Germany, to Frida Schreiber and Robert August Hüber. She and her beloved sister, Elfriede Luise, grew up on Mozartstrasse 17, Backnang. She was trained in pediatric nursing and came to the United States as a young woman to work as an au pair. Having traveled the world, she eventually opened a travel agency called Buckingham Travel and successfully ran the business for many years.

She joined Doylestown (Pa.) Meeting in 2006 and was a devoted member, also volunteering her time and expertise to many other community organizations and causes. She loved children, spending time with her family and friends, and art and music, especially opera. An avid gardener, she enjoyed the outdoors. She was devoted to family, loyal in friendship, and a citizen of the world. Her most frequent words in her final days were “thank you.”

Renate is survived by her two children, Christian George Frey and Susanne Frey; one grandchild; a sister, Elfriede Ritzmann; a nephew, Matthias Ritzmann (Leslie); Matthias’s children; and many other loved family members in Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium.
